"I have been crucified with Christ, it is no longer I who live but Christ lives in me." Galatians 2:20
Will You Pass the 1 Million-Dollar Test?

$1 million is what a credible company is going to offer you as an annual salary. It is a legitimate job position, a reputable company and you can trust that this is not a scam. Will you take that job?

The job only requires you to relocate to the other side of the world. If you’re in North America, you have to go to Asia. Even if you’re in Asia, you have to go to North America. You wake up at 5 AM every day and the job posting requires you to relocate in two weeks’ time.

You have to sell your car, sell your house, say goodbye to certain relationships you have here and just take your family and yourself and go. Would you do it?

Most of us, if we’re honest, will probably say, “Yes, let’s go!” Why? Because $1 million a year is the salary that you don’t want to pass by. A once in a lifetime opportunity, isn’t it?

Would You Do the Same for God?

But as we’re thinking about this question, I want to ask how many of us have actually thought about, “God, is this what you really wanted to do? I want to hear from You. Do You want me to relocate my family to another part of the country to make this $1 million a year?”

In John 6:27, Jesus says

“Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you because God the Father has set a seal on Him.”

Living in this world, obviously, we need money, we need sustenance, we need to provide for our families. These are things that we’re supposed to do. But as I pondered this question, ask myself, and you ask yourself also. Do we have the same passion, commitment, and sacrifice that we’re willing to make to earn that $1 million versus following the words of Jesus Christ and following the path that leads to eternal life in His kingdom?

Jesus says,

“Whoever who wants to come after Me, let him deny himself, pick up his cross and follow Me.”

Matthew 16:24

He told the rich young ruler,

“Go and sell all you have and give to the poor, then you’ll have treasures in heaven.”

Matthew 19:21

Perhaps at one time that we read that scripture, it’s like, “Oh, that’s radical.” But when we look at the job that gives us a million dollars, when we think it’s radical to immediately sell our house, to immediately sell our car, and to severe ties that we have currently so that we can go and take that job across the other side of the world.

Many of us are willing to do that for tangible bread, tangible money. But Jesus says,

“I am the bread of life.”

John 3:65

How many of us have actually eaten God’s word today?

“Because men shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”

John 6:27

In 1 Corinthians 9:24, it says,

“Do you not know that those who run in the race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.”

“And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown.”

Set Our Minds on Things Above

It’s important for us to look into our lives today and say “God, if I am willing to make the sacrifices to get a job for a million dollars, then certainly help me to be willing to make the same sacrifices if not more for You.” Because God and His kingdom are imperishable. And the million-dollar job that we have is perishable.

The bible calls us to set our minds on things above, not on things on the earth. (Colossians 3:2) Sometimes on this earth with all the distractions around us, when we think about setting time apart, giving priority to God, seeking His face, worshiping Him, praising Him, praying in the spirit, and seeking as well, “Oh, this is a bit of a waste of time.” “I don’t even know if He’s hearing me.” Maybe I’ll just watch some tv, do my favorite hobby for a bit, then hours looking for work.

All the while we forget that the things we’re seeking in this life, not that God doesn’t know that we need them, He knows. But those things are temporal and the things of God’s kingdom are eternal.

And the question for you and me today is: Have we sought after the things of God today and every day of our lives? Because on the day when we see Jesus, our house will fade away, our car will fade away, our job will fade away, our money, whatever it is, will fade away unless those things are used for the glory of God.

So my challenge for you today is this: Seek the Holy Spirit and say, Holy Spirit, what are things in my life that I am currently unwilling to let go of? I don’t want to make those sacrifices. I don’t want to set aside those times. I don’t want to sever certain relationships because I’m comfortable where I am.  But God, help me if I’m able to sacrifice those things that I’m currently not willing to.

If I’m willing to sacrifice those things for a job, for a million dollars, help me to be willing and be committed to You enough to sacrifice myself to You because I do not live for this kingdom here on earth. I live for your kingdom in Heaven because the coming of Jesus is at hand and the signs are all around us.

Share this with as many people as possible so you can share the word of life with people around us.

May we continue to follow Jesus.

God bless you!
