Have you seen this video clip of Sampson Parker, who cut off his entire arm in excruciating pain? His arm was stuck in his truck, and he had to cut his arm to save his life.
The reason I am telling you about this story is that it relates to a forgotten truth in Christianity in our faith.
Here is what Sampson Parker said about his experience:
“I cried out to God to help me. I didn’t want my family to come down here on the farm and see me burned to death behind this corn picker. Without thinking, I reached back, grabbed ahold of my pocket knife, took the knife, and jammed it into the forum.”
“When I jammed that knife into my arm and started cutting away the meat, I was screaming. Cutting those nerves in my arm hurt. I can’t explain how it felt. To break the bone, I raised up as high as I could, like this, and then I dropped to the ground, letting this sharp sheet metal snap the bone.”
“And when that happened, the tire on the side of the machine exploded. And that was like someone smacked me in the face, and it blew me back away from the machine, about five feet on my back.”
“And I’ll never forget, I jumped up with blood shooting at the end of my arm. I jumped up, running around to my truck thinking I’m free. I’m free!”
This man cut off his arm with blood gushing out and yet he says, I am free! I am free! What is your first thought when you heard of the testimony right there?
Do What God Calls Us to Do
First one, what this man did was surely drastic. But you know what? It saved his life here on earth. How much more important is it to save not only your life here but the life in the next?
Does this testimony not remind you of the scripture that Jesus says,
“If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. If your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. For it is better for you to enter life, maimed than to have your whole body sent into hellfire.”
Most people will not be radical in living a life that God has called them to live. But Jesus says you! Jesus says me! We have to do it. Because if you are the son of the Most High, then you have to do this.
If you’re in the same situation with your hand caught in that little truck, will you snap your hand off?
Will you cut off your entire arm to live? If your answer is yes, then I have to ask you a question: Is there a reason why you and I are not living more radical lives that is transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit so that we can live a life that is pleasing to God?
Doing what he calls us to do, to live in His will, walk in holiness, walk in righteousness, and purify ourselves. Because we are the bride who have to make ourselves ready for the coming of the bridegroom, Jesus Christ.
Do you have loved ones, families, people who you know who do not know the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ? Because they are certainly not just going to have this one momentary time of burning the flesh here on earth. It’s gonna be forever and in eternity!
Anyone’s names who are not written in the Book of Life will be burned in the lake of fire forever and ever. That is the second death. It is so hard to talk about that. It is hard to bring it up. And yet that’s the eternal destiny of hundreds of thousands of people every single day.
They say 250,000 people die every single day. How many of those people actually know of Jesus Christ and of His saving grace today?
God has given you and me a mission. Whatever it is. Wherever we go. Let us lift up the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Tell them about the gospel. Because if our life here on earth is precious enough for this man to cut off his arm, to preserve his life for his family, surely, a life that is worth for eternity, thousands and thousands of years. That is enough for us to live our own lives dedicated to God, and to tell other people of His great mercy and His great love for us.
Out of his love for his family, this man endured the excruciating pain of cutting his own arm, with blood gushing out! Do you see how radical that is? And yet that’s what Jesus says exactly for His children.
If you want to enter life, you want to honor God. If you want to walk in a narrow path that leads to life, Jesus puts it this way:
“If anyone desires to follow Me, let him first deny himself, pick up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake shall find it.”
When the world, your neighbors, and your friends are watching certain movies, or listening to certain music you say: Well actually, I don’t really like to listen to those things or watch those things. They’ll look at you weird.
But all those things: the flesh, the lust of the eyes, the bible says, are the ones that drag us away from the things of God. We want to renew our mind with the word of God. Romans 12:1 says:
“Offer up your bodies as living sacrifices, holy, and pleasing to God.”
Singing worship on Sundays is not just the only form of worship. Giving your money, helping people who are in need, visiting the poor, healing the sick, and all those things, they’re good. But they’re not the only form of worship. Our body is a living sacrifice when we die to ourselves and live on to righteousness, that is a living sacrifice under God that is pleasing to Him.
Go ahead, and share this with someone who needs to know about it.
God bless you!
