Actor Chris Tucker turned down $10 million because of his faith.
And in this blog post, we’re going to look at that testimony. And you and I, may we ask ourselves. can we turn down $10 million for the cause of Jesus Christ?
The article here says, Famous comedian, Chris Tucker, recently turned down the film offer worth $10 million because it contradicts his beliefs and values. Chris Tucker became famous when he started with Jackie Chan in Rush Hour. His R-rated movie “Friday” was a gross-topping one as well. It earned $27 million more than two decades ago. But a life-changing encounter with Jesus led him to change his ways, including his stand-up comedy content and the movies he chooses to make.
Ice Cube, his co-star from the film “Friday”, approached Chris Tucker about filming “Next Friday.” And this is the Tweeter tweet that Ice Cube said:
“We were ready to pay Chris Tucker $10 to 12 million to do Next Friday but he turned us down for religious reasons.”
Ice cube tweeted,
“He didn’t want to cuss or smoke weed on camera anymore.”
Chris Tucker certainly knows what his priority is when he gave his life to Jesus. He knew that it was not just lip service. He knew that it entailed total surrender to a God who loves us without bounds.
But here’s the thing, when you look at an article or testimony like this, it’s very easy to say “Oh well, that’s a celebrity. I don’t even know if they’re true or not. I’ve seen a lot of celebrities who claim to follow Jesus, only months later, do the opposite of what the gospel says.“
And so, is Chris Tucker a real believer? I don’t know. Maybe he’s a real believer, maybe he’s a fake believer. I don’t know. Only God knows. But it’s not your place or my place to judge. Our place is to ask ourselves what are the things in our lives that we’re giving up for the Lord Jesus Christ? Not things that we don’t want, but things that we want, things that we desire. One of those things is that we are giving up for the Lord Jesus Christ because that’s a better question to ask than to judge and doubt someone who has clearly done something for the cause of Jesus Christ.
And if you think $10 million dollars is too hard a number to fathom, maybe you think something that’s closer to your terms. Are you willing to give up a job that pays you more salary so that you can have more time to seek God, more time to spend with your family so you can teach them about the things of God, to pray, and the things of the Kingdom or are you going to keep on climbing that corporate ladder, keep on growing that business, spend all your time, all your energy and all your effort there? Meanwhile. your kids don’t see you. God doesn’t see you because you’re not in a secret place. You’re not praying. You’re not seeking Him. Which is it going to be?
Count The Cost
Because you have to remember this, number one, Jesus says, we have to count the cost.
In Luke 14:25-34, Jesus says this,
“Great multitudes went to Him.”
When we see a large crowd today, you’re like “You know what? Let’s go preach the gospel to them.” And people will try to preach something that is easy, something that’s very good for the flesh. “Oh, just come accept Jesus. Just pray this prayer, so we can see a lot of hands go up that people accepted Jesus.“
But that’s not what Jesus did. Jesus turned and said to this multitude and he says if anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also. He cannot be My disciple.
You have to understand that this is in the context of Jesus talking about persecution. You can read it in the other gospels as well. Jesus is saying, when you’re persecuted for my gospel’s sake, don’t deny My name and even your own life. Because if you lose your life for my sake, you’re going to find it. (Matthew 10:39)
This is the context. Jesus is not saying you should disrespect your parents and your brothers and all those things. He says you should love them. But your love for God should be nothing. And in fact even seems like hatred compared to love for God and that, to be honest, it’s very, very hard to do.
May God help us.
Luke 14, Jesus says,
“Whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be my disciple.” (Luke 14:27)
“For which, one of you, intending to build a tower,” He’s talking about counting the cost, does not sit down first..” (Luke 14:28)
“..and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it lest, after he has laid the foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it, begin to mock him. This man began to build and was not able to finish.” (Luke 14:29)
And then he goes on to say, which king is there to go out with war is not going to count the amount of soldiers in the army that he has, because when he goes out, he doesn’t want to be defeated. (Luke 14:31)
He’s going to ask for the terms of the peace treaty. (Luke 14:32)
And so Jesus concludes by saying, “Whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.” (Luke 14:33)
Wow, Jesus! The multitudes came to You. This is the most perfect time to have any kind of evangelistic, sermon, preaching the gospel. And Jesus gives them what? Not come and pray this prayer, not come and just accept Me into your heart, not just come to do whatever you think is right.
But He says, you deny yourself, forsake all that you have, then you can be My disciple.
Jesus says, not only do you have to forsake all and count the cost, you have to deny yourself. If anyone wants to be My disciple and does not deny himself, pick up his own cross, he can’t even be My disciple.
And so when you look at the testimony like Chris Tucker’s, I applaud him! Chris, great job for turning down $10 million for the cause of Jesus Christ, so that you don’t have to blaspheme the name of God. You don’t have to cuss, you don’t have to lose your testimony. Praise God for that testimony that you’re giving.
I pray that you continue to follow Jesus. That’s my prayer for you and that’s my prayer for everyone! For you and I to honor God in our lives no matter what degree it is. Whether it’s in the job, whether it’s in a church, whether it’s your family, may we honor God knowing that He is our first priority. And that we deny ourselves, we count the cost.
And you know what? This life is nothing. This life is just temporal. This 70, 80, 100 years or so at max here on earth is nothing compared to eternity when we see God. So I’m going to spend all my life, all my energy, all my time, I’m going to use all this for the kingdom of God because I know that I want to see Him. I will not be ashamed because I have counted the cost. And I’m going to deny myself and follow Jesus.
Is that your prayer?
Is that my prayer?
Maybe because we live for a kingdom that will not perish. But here in this world, everything will perish and will be burned up one day.
Faith That is Not Tested Cannot Be Trusted
And number three, I heard a preacher say this one time.
Faith that is not tested cannot be trusted.
How true is that?
When you look at the book of Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, he’s saying, I’m going to throw you guys into the fire if you will not bow to this idol’s image. (Daniel 3:6)
But they said you know what? I’m not going to explain. I have no need to explain myself to you. (Daniel 3:16)
Because the God whom we serve, He’s going to protect us from this fire. (Daniel 3:17)
And even if He doesn’t, even if He doesn’t protect us, we will still serve the living God. We will not bow down to your idol. (Daniel 3:18)
And we all know how the story goes. The king is so upset that these three Hebrews won’t bow down to the image that he has made. He’s turned the fire seven times hotter. Even the soldiers bringing them there got killed. (Daniel 3:19)
And then this high heat, high torture environment that the king wants for these Hebrew children. And all of a sudden, they start seeing. Wait! Didn’t we throw three of them in there? Why are there four people in that fire? Because God was protecting them. (Daniel 3:24-25)
You have to remember that God did not stop them from going into the fire. They were in the fire and God protected them through the fire.
Today, you and I, we have to be tested in our faith. If you’re having opposition in your life, if you feel like you’re preaching the gospel, you’re living the life that God is calling you to live, you’re raising your children the right way, you’re doing what God called you to do, and the way you go through these trials, whether you’re going to go through like complaining like the children of Israel and blame God or you’re going to say, “God, You’re good. I trust in Your promises. I stand in Your promises. I pray and declare Your word.”
However you go through this trial determines whether God can trust you after you go through that trial, whether He can promote you, whether He can give you more blessings, whether He can use you for the cause of the kingdom of God. Because it is so easy to say,
“Oh, I believe God.”
“Oh, I’m going to stand for Him.”
But the rubber meets the road and they say they’re going to chop off your head, if you don’t take this mark on your right hand or your forehead.
It’s coming. I’m telling you because on that day, there are going to be people who will fold and say, “you know what I love my family. It’s the right thing to do. I will take the mark, and I’m going to put it on my forehead, on my right hand. It’s just something there. No one can really see it. God will understand. God will forgive you. Take the mark of the beast because they want to buy, they want to sell.”
And it’s a very very sad time because many “Christians” will take the mark of the beast not knowing the times that we’re in. You have to remember that we don’t live in the kingdom here on earth because it is short and there’s an eternal kingdom. There’s the spirit realm that most people don’t see it.
Go ahead and share this with other people.
Until next time.
God bless you!
