"I have been crucified with Christ, it is no longer I who live but Christ lives in me." Galatians 2:20
Are Your Words Pleasing to God?

Do you know what is one of the most difficult things to do as a Christian?

Let me tell you by sharing this challenge that a pastor once said, and I remember. For only 24 hours, try to not speak even one thing that is negative about others, about a situation, or about yourself. The pastor goes on and shares things. “Oh, I think it’s going to be so easy to do.” The moment he wakes up, immediately, he caught himself with a negative thought.

Religion is Useless with Unbridled Tongue

How many times have we also experienced that? And this is a very important thing that many Christians overlook. And here’s why.

In James 1:26 it says,

“If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.”

Did you know that our religion, our professed faith in God could be useless according to the bible if we don’t bridle our tongue and if we don’t obey God?

James 1:27 says,

“Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.”

It is so easy to pass judgment and to see something negative about someone in the name of, “Oh, I’m just sharing the truth.” “I just want to warn people about that person.” But is that really your intention in your heart? Sometimes, if it’s really the intention of the heart, we also have to be careful to let our words be seasoned with grace, so many times much easier said than done.

But God will help us to bridle our tongue. Because James 3:4 says, Our tongue is like this writer at the ship. It controls the direction of the ship.

How many times have you said something that you immediately regretted? How many times have you heard someone say something and immediately caused you to be angry? Because of someone sparking it with some words that they uttered out of their mouths.

That is why the bible here in James 1:19 tells us,

“To be quick to listen and be slow to speak.”

This is specifically an area that I have to work on in my marriage with my wife if you ask her. And this is the promise that God says in James 1:12:

“Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.”

Life and Death Can Come Out of Your Tongue

Today, there are many temptations in this world and one of them is certainly our words and how we speak. Are we speaking life? Because the bible says that life and death are in the power of the tongue. Did you know that life or death can come out of your tongue? (Proverbs 15:21)

Are you blessing someone?

Are you’re encouraging them to do the will that God has sent in their lives?

Or do you discourage them, or stepping on them so that you can feel better about yourself?

Perhaps the words or tongue is one temptation that many times we don’t think about, but it is something that we need to overcome.

And here’s the good news that we have been approved and we can overcome this temptation through faith in the blood of Jesus! One day we will get the crown of life that God will give us at the coming of Jesus. May you and I be found to be the ones who encourage people to walk into the right path and not the ones who discourage people and turn them away from the living God. We don’t want that to be on account.

Go ahead and share this with others who need to read it.

God bless you!
