"I have been crucified with Christ, it is no longer I who live but Christ lives in me." Galatians 2:20
7 Ways to Heal From Disappointment and Rejection

Seven ways to heal from disappointment, burnout, and rejection. That is what we’re going to look at in this blog post.

Jesus says, “In this life, you will have tribulation but take heart, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

We don’t deny that there are bad things that happen in the world. In this life, there will be. But when we encounter them as Christians, how can we overcome them? Because certainly, God doesn’t just give us His hope of eternal life when we see Him one day. That is true.

But even here now we’re on earth, He’s given us the Holy Spirit. o we can live a life of victory. We can receive hope. We can receive life and we can receive comfort from the Spirit of the living God so that we can carry out our faith and walk on the narrow path until He returns.

1. Acknowledge the Events That are Happening

You have to acknowledge that the events that happened really happened and that your emotions are valid. I didn’t say they may be correct. Perhaps you’re really angry at a person. Perhaps you want to get back at someone.

You have those emotions. I’m not saying they’re necessarily good because those emotions can be sinful but you can acknowledge they are there. They are valid. Why? Because God has created you to be an emotional person. That’s why when you worship you can experience the presence of God with emotions. Our faith is not void of emotions and our faith is not just based on emotions but it’s not lack of it.

So when something bad happens, tell yourself, I understand this happened. I’m not saying that it is right, but God, I acknowledge that I’m an emotional being and I’m going to take these emotions under control because one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit is self-control.

And at times when you feel like you’re spiraling downwards and downwards and downwards, you have to say, “Yes you” and say “Emotions, I won’t have you anymore.” You say, “Depression be gone.” I’m going to bless my soul, I’m going to bless the Lord. You’re going to turn the tide of emotions to praise God, to bless Him even if you don’t feel like it.

And I guarantee you when you do it first,  starting in the flesh, praising God, blessing Him, speaking of promises that He has for you in the bible. Then you’ll be able to start seeing that you are comforted with the peace of God and you can deal with the situation that is bad but with the help of God and not on your own strength.

That is why it’s so important to acknowledge the event, acknowledge the emotions but don’t let your emotions get out of hand. Rather pray and take control over the emotions, to be submissive to God, so that you can have God help you in the situation instead of fighting it on your own.

2. Do Not Blame God on Things That Clearly Violate the Scriptures

Some Christians just think “Oh, just because something happened, just because circumstance presents itself, then it must be God. Then I just have to accept it.” This is absolutely false!

Jesus and the disciples, when they went through the towns and villages, He didn’t just accept everything that happened as if it came from God. In fact, Jesus many times turned the situation around.

He raised a person who was dead in a coffin because he had compassion for the mother. And the disciples also went out and preached and healed the sick and cast out demons because that’s what Jesus commanded them to do.

People like to quote the Book of Job, you need to understand and read it and it says it is Satan who struck Job. And after he has done that, God has actually restored to Job way more than what he had before.

And here’s the key in Job 2:10

“Throughout all of this, Job did not sin by what he said.”

Today, it is easy to blame God on certain things and say “Oh God, why did you do this?” “Why won’t You just help me?” If you do that, you don’t have God on your side. You want God on your side. Rather, speak against the devil and stand your ground in the scriptures and say “Devil, you’re the one who comes to steal, kill and destroy and I don’t agree with the situation. I break it in the name of Jesus! Every attack of the evil one, cancel your assignment. Now in Jesus’ name, be healed, be set free, be delivered now in Jesus’ name!”

That is how you should deal with the situation and pray and intercede because God is on your side and not on the other side. You have to make sure that you do not blame God but instead, go to Him so that he can help you.

3. Take a Mental Time Machine

Pull yourself out 20 years from now, a year from now. Let’s say you can see 20 years into the future. Ask yourself, “How would I feel about the situation 20 years from now?” Will you feel better? Will you feel the same or would you feel that this is just something that is pretty trivial?

Now, I understand that there are a lot of people who go through a lot of hardships, tragedy, loss of loved ones, and those things kind of stay with us throughout our lives. I understand that. But through time things can actually help you heal.

But there are also other things in our lives that we think are so important at this time, whether it’s your job, whether it’s an argument with someone in the church, or whatever it is. You think it’s so important. In 20 years’ time, nobody thinks about it.

And so it is important for us to pull ourselves out and think, “What am I going to think in 20 years’ time?” Because when you do that, you’ll find that many things you find important and that you’re so consumed with. In 20 years’ time, you won’t even think about them anymore.

4. Choose to Forgive

You have to choose to forgive and release any type of bitterness against the person who has sinned against you. Now, I don’t mean to say that legalistically, “you must do this or else.” It’s actually for your own good. You know why? Because when you hold something into your heart, it’s like you’re holding onto this mouse, you won’t let go of it. Unless I let go of this mouse, I can’t actually go and hold on to something else.

God may be trying to give you healing. He may want to give you deliverance and for providence that you’ve been asking for. But because you’re so held onto the situation that you won’t let go of it. And day and night, you’re molding over and over in your head, God can’t give it to you.

And so it’s liberation, it’s freedom for you to say “I choose to forgive. I choose to release bitterness from this person because God Himself has first forgiven me of my sin and grace sin against Him. Today, I can do the same. So help me God.”

And if you go on YouTube or online, you can see different testimonies that are hard to fathom. You can see the father saying that he forgives the person who killed his daughter. And I’m not going to pretend that I understand all the turmoil and all the trials you’ve gone through. because I know I wouldn’t. But you know what God does.

He knows what you’ve been through. And He says He wants you to forgive just as your heavenly Father has forgiven you. When you do that, when you release it, God will heal your heart and He can turn your situation around as you continue to walk with Him.

Don’t ever hold onto your baggage and don’t hold on to unforgiveness.

5. Know That God Can Take a Bad Situation and Turn It to Good.

You have to know that God can take a bad situation and turn it into good. Something that would glorify Him, even though He didn’t intend it to happen in the first place.

In Romans Chapter 8:28 it says

“We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to his purpose.”

Sometimes this verse is quoted and say “Oh all things work together for good.” That’s not what it says. All things work together for good to those who love Him.

And so then you have to ask, do you love God? Do you seek his presence? Do you really want to enter his eternal kingdom? If you are and if you are His child, then He loves you and He wants to take everything, all the bad things, all the turmoil, all the bad and turn them into something great. Even though He didn’t intend it in the first place because of the devil who comes to steal, kill and destroy.

But Jesus says, I can take that mess. I can take that turmoil and turn it into something good that will bless you. And we see that over and over again in the bible when the brothers want to kill Joseph and take him away. Joseph ends up being forgotten for a while being in prison. But God later turned the situation around and made Joseph the second most powerful person in Egypt. And this is only possible because Joseph looked into God and he did not give up.

So I encourage you to trust in God today because He has your back.

6. Abide in God’s Word

In John 15:4-5, it says “Abide in Me, and I in you.” That’s what Jesus said “As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine. Neither can you unless you abide in Me.”

I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, will bear much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)

Today, if you want to bear fruit, you can’t bear fruit just buy your own ability. We need the power of the Holy Spirit. We need the word of God. We need the presence of God in our lives in order to change us, in order for us to heal, in order for us to forgive, and to release any bitterness so that we can walk the narrow path that leads to life.

I can tell you that encountering the living God through His word and through praying is much, much, much more important and much more helpful than seeking some kind of counseling, especially if you’re getting counseling from a person that is not even a Christian.

And sometimes even some Christian counseling will not help you because you need deliverance. You need demons cast out from you. If whether they’re raged, they’re angered, they’re lust, whatever it is. You need to receive deliverance. And when you receive deliverance, you need to abide in the word of God, so that you can resist the devil and he will flee from you.

When you abide by God’s word, God will start helping you to heal from disappointment. You will no longer feel burned out because your eyes are now fixed on Jesus. And you won’t care about the rejection of the world because you know that God has not rejected you, because Jesus has accepted you when you repented and trusted Him and you walk with Him every day. Isn’t that amazing?

7. Look Forward to Our Eternal Home

In 2 Peter 3:13, says “We, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

Jesus says, “Behold, I make all things new.” And one day the new Jerusalem is going to come from heaven and come down the earth, and then we shall be with the Lord all the days of our lives for eternity. That’s going to be such an amazing day! I cannot even fully fathom it! But it’s going to be exciting.

And so if you and I put a focus on that eternal home. The things in this life are going to start shrinking. There’s a song that says, “Turn your eyes upon Jesus and look at His wonderful face.” When you do that, all the things of this world will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and fame.

And so right now I speak to you if you’re experiencing disappointment, burnout, and hurt and rejection and pain, I pray and declare in Jesus’ name that you’ll be free from all these attacks of the evil one and I pray that all the situations that are bad in your life, that God will turn them around for good to those of you who love God and are called according to His purpose. And that every attack of the enemy is cast down in Jesus’ name.

That you can have the strength, that you can have the courage and you can have the heart to forgive and release and let go so that you can receive all that God has for you in Jesus’ name. I declare that over your life. So be it. Amen.

Go ahead and share this with other people who need to hear it and go and bless one person this week to know the Lord, Jesus Christ, and pray for your loved ones because Jesus is coming back.

God bless you!
