Seven deadly sins in the bible that God says He hates. We want to make sure we don’t do them as children of God.
Proverbs 6:16-19 says:
“These six things the Lord hates. Yes, seven are an abomination to Him.
1. A proud look.
2. A lying tongue.
3. Hands that shed innocent blood.
4. A heart that devises wicked plans.
5. Feet that are swift and running to evil.
6. A false witness who speaks lies.
7.And one who sows discord among brethren.”
Sometimes people look at this and say, “Well, I’m not proud. I don’t lie. Just, you know, maybe some white lies here and there.” But a LIE is a LIE.
And what about number seven? The thing that’s an abomination to God? One who sows discord among brethren. What is that? GOSSIPING.
Do you like it when people talk about you behind your back? You need to understand when you sow discord when you talk about people, and gossip about them in a way that changes people’s opinion about them, you are doing what it says here.
A proud look. You have to be prideful in order to gossip about other people because you feel like you’re better. Many times, you accompany a lying tongue along with that. You may not think that you’re lying, but you’re just maybe exaggerating things a little bit just to get your story a little bit more spiced up, telling what did really happen but maybe a little bit more exaggerated. God does not like that.
Sometimes people say, “Well, hands that shed innocent blood. We don’t kill people. I have not killed anyone. So, that’s not me.” But did you know that God hates abortion, because it’s killing that’s shedding innocent blood?
You say, “Well, I haven’t done that.” But what about your stance on abortion? Do you vote on political parties? Do you support organizations or people who support pro-choice? Those who support abortions? Have you seen the procedures they used to kill babies?
When you say things as they are, then you start to realize the magnitude of that sin and how that grieves the heart of God. And this is no condemnation if you’ve had abortions in the past, or if you’ve done things in the past that you know are wrong and you’ve repented, Jesus has forgiven you. Receive His grace today.
But what I’m saying here is don’t just look at other people and say, “Well, they’re the ones who are wrong.” What about our own lives? I will highly encourage you to re-examine your stance on supporting people and political parties and groups who stand with the biblical teachings of God.
So many times, I hear Christians say, “Oh, but yeah, I’m following this party even though they’re pro-choice, they are pro abortion, pro killing babies. I’m okay with that.” But I have a hard time believing that God is okay with that.
May it be a reminder to us from the word of God today, that we are not to gossip or sow discord among brethren. Because Jesus says, by our words we’ll be justified. and by our words, we will be condemned. And every idle word that a person speaks, they will have to give an account on the day of judgment.
Let us love today.
Let us forgive.
Let’s give grace to others.
If you want to be strict, be strict with yourself, but give grace to other people.
Sow Love and Unity
I’ve noticed recently online that there is a trend of different YouTube channels and videos saying this person is a false teacher, that person is a false teacher, and they have all these emotions and they trigger all these engagements. And I’m like, “Okay, you get views.” We get it! But is that really the heart of God?
I’m thinking, what is Jesus thinking right now in heaven when he sees the body of Christ divided, bickering, and gossiping against one another? Now, I’m not saying that there’s no place for truth. Obviously, we have to stand up for truth, but you don’t have to do it in a way that is clearly condemning the person who is trying to serve God.
Today, you say, you’re not doing this online and you don’t even have a channel. Well, maybe you’re doing this in your workplace. Maybe you’re doing this in your family. Are you playing favorites with your children? Maybe you’re disagreeing with your spouse? You must have unity with the stance with your spouse. You don’t want to sow discord, you want to sow love, you want to sow unity.
Because guess what? When Jesus comes back, He’s going to have a bride who loves Him and loves one another. It’s such a simple message, and yet it is needed for so many of us.
I encourage you right now to ask the Holy Spirit.
Holy Spirit, who are the people who I have gossiped about in the past and that has displeased Your heart. I pray that You reveal to me. Let me repent of it. If I need to speak to them and confess my sin, let me do it. I just want to be made right in Your eyes. I just want to please Jesus.
It would be good for us to do that right now because that shows obedience, and not just listening to the word of God and not doing it. God always has grace for us, but that grace is one that calls us to repent and trust in Jesus because He is coming soon.
